Charter Schools

Georgia law allows state and local entities to create charter schools.  These charter schools are subject to the same membership requirements as local boards of education. Therefore, employees of charter schools who meet the definition of “teacher” must be members of TRS as a condition of employment.  Membership for these employees is not optional.
