Atlanta, GA – The Teachers Retirement System of Georgia (TRS) is pleased to announce our 96th consecutive cost of living adjustment (COLA) since July 1, 1977 for eligible TRS retirees, effective January 1, 2025.

This most recent COLA underscores TRS's strong financial position and prudent management of system assets. While many pension systems across the nation face challenges, TRS has consistently prioritized long-term sustainability, enabling the System to provide valuable benefits like this COLA. This commitment ensures that TRS can continue to meet its obligations to its members, both current and future.

"We understand the importance of these adjustments in helping our retirees maintain their financial security in the face of increasing costs," said Dr. L.C. (Buster) Evans.

Cost of living adjustments play a crucial role in helping retirees manage the impact of inflation. Established July 1, 1969 in consideration of rising costs of goods and services, this program helps ensure that retirement benefits maintain their purchasing power, allowing retirees to meet their essential needs.

Beyond the direct benefit to retirees, COLAs also have a positive ripple effect on local economies throughout Georgia. As retirees spend their increased benefits within their communities, they contribute to local businesses and support economic growth. This reinvestment strengthens the economic fabric of our state and demonstrates the vital role TRS plays in the overall financial health of Georgia. You can find out more about this by viewing our 2025 Economic Impact Brochure at https://www.trsga.com/about-us/economic-impact/.

TRS remains committed to managing the System's assets responsibly and strategically. This approach allows the System to deliver on its promises to its members, provide valuable benefits like this COLA, and ensure the long-term financial security of Georgia's educators. We are proud to support those who have dedicated their careers to educating Georgia's children.
