You can purchase credit for periods of absence from employment due to pregnancy prior to March 5, 1976. One and one-half months of credit may be awarded for each pregnancy with a maximum of six months allowable for all pregnancies. The cost to purchase the service credit for Maternity Leave is the full actuarial cost.

If you wish to establish credit for periods of maternity leave, please send your request in writing and submit a birth certificate or other proof of the specific pregnancy.

Maternity leave credit cannot be established for absences due to pregnancy occurring after March 5, 1976, because of a change in employment law regarding treating pregnancy as an illness.
